Supporting your child in their learning

Parental support in a child's learning journey is essential. There are some very simple ways in which you can support your child's learning; these include:

• Making sure your child is at school on time and ready to learn.
• Attending Parents' Evenings and Afternoons.
• Attending your child's assemblies where they will share their learning with you.
• Talking to your child about their homework and about what they have been learning in school.

Sometimes you may wish to talk about particular concern you have or ask about your child's learning. It is always best to come in and speak with either the Head Teacher or the Depute Head Teacher in the first instance. They will try to help you and your child and if necessary can arrange a meeting with the class teacher. You can also ask to speak to the Home Link Assistant Mrs Iqbal, who can also translate/interpret or help to arrange an interpreter for meetings.

When your child starts school you will be invited to attend a series of meetings with lots of information about school and how to support your child's learning. In addition you will then be able to come along to Parent Workshops which will give you helpful advice and information about how your child learns to read and how you can be active in helping this process. Throughout the year newsletters, school bag letters and text messages will be sent out and you can keep up to date via Facebook and Twitter.

Avoid taking your child on holiday or away to visit family in term time (especially for extended periods of over 2 weeks, which cause both your child and the rest of their class to  fall behind in learning) and always notify the school if they will be absent due to illness.

Ensure that your child is in the appropriate playground before 9am ready to line up with their class.
